How can you improve your streaming source?

The links between the streamer and our box (the interface box supplied by our internet provider) can be made in different ways. There is a simple network wire, a WI-FI (i.e. wireless) link, PLCs using the mains wires in our homes, etc. The results obtained vary from case to case. My experience today leads me to use a simple network wire. These are broadly characterised by their speed and noise immunity. They range from CAT5E to CAT8.

I use CAT6, which is more than sufficient for our application. In my auditorium, between my streamer and my Box, this network wire is about 10 m long. One of my loyal young customers recently asked me about the usefulness of inserting a switch (an electronic device for connecting several users on an internal network) very close to my hi-fi system. He explains that it improves reception by reshaping the signals.

After a lot of testing, I actually got a better result this way. So I have my CAT6 wire connected to my box, leading to a small router near my hi-fi system. From this router another network wire runs to my streamer after 1.2m.

With the experience I've gained with digital SPDIF and USB cables, it was impossible for Legato not to look at the impact of this last link on listening quality. And so it is. I've listened to a good number of network cables, including hi-fi models. I've heard significant differences.

If I were to use terms often encountered in hi-fi, I'd say more resolution, more transparency, more presence. We've also added more emotion to our ELEGANZA network cable by working on the balance between attack and sustain of the notes. The cable's flat, wide structure reduces the interaction between the different signals carried.  Our ELEGANZA cable is designed for audio. To obtain the best possible audio quality, we have deliberately not implemented video transmission.
